African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken over as the main opposition party in Nasarawa State following a mass defection of major stakeholders from various political parties to the new coalition.
The coalition meeting was held on Sunday at Kini Country Hotel Akwanga, where a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, John Michael Abdul, emerged as the interim Chairman of the party in the state, while Jibrin Sabo Keana was appointed Secretary.
In attendance were three former ministers from the state namely Musa Elayo, minister of state for justice, Senator Patricia Kawashiki, former minister of information/BoT chairman of ADC and Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, former minister of environment.

Notable among those who defected to the ADC are distinguished Senator Suleiman Asonya Adokwe, a three-term member of the Nigerian Senate; Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi, the immediate past Minister of Environment; and Barr. Musa Abdullahi Elayo, former Minister of Justice (State).
Others who defected include Hon. Abdulkarim Ombamas, former Member of the House of Representatives; General Nuhu Angbazo (rtd), a PDP gubernatorial aspirant for the 2022 primaries; and ESV Dr. Umar Musa Galadima and Mr. Nathaniel Aboki, the 2023 PDP Senatorial Candidates.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, a sitting Senator representing Nasarawa South; Miss Farida Umar, who recently contested for the PDP National Ex Officio and Mr. William Alaku, the ADC Chairman in the state.
The stakeholders unanimously agreed to work together to build the party and ensure victory at all levels in the forthcoming 2027 general elections. They emphasized party interest, unity of purpose, fairness, and sustained grassroots mobilization as key priorities.
In his remarks, the Coordinating Chairman of the Coalition in the state, John Michael Abdul, appealed to the general public, especially those interested in joining the party, to be patient, promising that a more expanded meeting would be convened at various levels soon.
