By JOY ADARA, Abuja-
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has hailed the Super Falcons as Nigeria’s foremost ambassadors following their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In a congratulatory statement issued on Sunday in Abuja through her Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, Dr. Magnus Eze, the Minister praised the team’s remarkable achievement.
It would be recalled that on Saturday night, the Super Falcons staged a stunning comeback from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the host nation, Morocco, 3-2 in the WAFCON 2024 final.
Prior to the match, Odumegwu-Ojukwu released a widely shared video rallying the team to seize the trophy, describing them as formidable and Nigeria’s most powerful ambassadors.
NAN also noted that the Super Falcons made history as the first African women’s team to claim the WAFCON title for a record 10th time.
“Driven by the indomitable Nigerian spirit, you took charge in the second half, dominating every aspect of the game despite the passionate support for the opposition,” Odumegwu-Ojukwu said.
“You showcased the essence of true champions—exceptional discipline, resilience, and unity of purpose—achieving your mission in a way that stunned the hosts.”
She added, “You are our unwavering and most impactful ambassadors. Thank you for once again making Nigeria proud.”
The Super Falcons remained unbeaten in the group stage, triumphed in the knockout rounds, and conceded just one goal in the semi-finals before securing a 3-2 victory over Morocco in the final.
