A tanker carrying 50,000 litres of diesel lost control near Jin-Jofes filling Station on Iwo Road in Ibadan on Wednesday night, injuring one person.
Oyo State Fire Service Chairman Mr. Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday.
Akinwande said the truck skidded off the road at a sharp bend, spilling its content.
The service received a distress call at 20:07 p.m. from Mr. Adisa Kazeem, prompting a swift deployment of personnel led by ACFS Adeniyi Adesina to the scene.
“On getting there, a DAF tanker with registration no T17657LA (Lagos) with 50,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) had skidded off the road into a nearby gutter and its content was gushing out.”
The firemen quickly blanketed the spillage with chemical foam compound to neutralize the flammability of the content.
Akinwande attributed the cause of the accident to loss of control when the driver was trying to navigate the bend in the road.
Both the driver and motor boy were rescued alive. However, the motor boy sustained a minor injury on his shoulder and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and Amotekun Corps restored vehicular movement in the area following the incident.
