Chairman of African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Nasarawa State, Godwin Williams Alaku, said his party should be counted out of any coalition with decampees from PDP, APC and other political parties in Nasarawa State.
Mr Alaku, who made this known in a telephone interview with journalists on Thursday, emphasized that he remained ADC chairman in the state
“Count ADC out of any coalition in Nasarawa State, we are capable of sustaining our party, we don’t need any person or group of persons to join us, we have been on our own, we don’t need any coalition”
“I remain the authentic chairman of ADC in Nasarawa State, nobody can take that from me. I don’t know about any caretaker committee aside my own leadership and members of my state working committee of the party” he said.
When asked about allegations that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had offered the national chairman and state chairmen huge sums of money to renege on their earlier agreement to join the coalition, Alaku denied the claims, stating that there was no truth to them.
“I don’t know what you are saying, I don’t know anything about any money given to any body from my party from the national to the state levels. If others get it, I didn’t. Infact, nobody gave us money, rather we are trying to hold on to our party’s structures” he said.
Mr Alaku, who kept emphasing that ADC should be counted out of any coalition with the defectors, emphasized that “no amount of money, not even 100 million naira, could make him relinquish his position as chairman to Mike Abdul, the coalition’s caretaker chairman”.
The chairman, who disclosed that they have gone to court to claim their rights, said he will reserve some comments since the matter has taken some legal dimension.
Reacting to this development, Secretary of ADC Coalition in Nasarawa State, Jibrin Keana, said they don’t want to join issues with any body because according to him they are focused on building a stronger opposition in the state.
“We are very surprised at the sudden out burst of Mr Alaku. He was with us at the coalition meeting at Kini Hotel Akwanga recently and he agreed with everything we have done, just or him to turn around and say a different thing” Sabo said.
Our correspondent observed that the crisis in ADC Coalition Nasarawa State chapter has raised questions about the party’s unity and its ability to achieve its goals in the state, because it has put a strain on the party’s potential coalition with defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
