The Plateau State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has endorsed Governor Caleb Mutfwang for re-election in 2027 after a peer review tour of all 17 Local Government Councils (LGCs).
The review, led by ALGON Chairman, Hon. Hamisu Anani, was described as historic and provided an opportunity for council chairmen to assess projects, interact with constituents, and strengthen grassroots governance.
Anani said the exercise allowed ALGON executives to visit ongoing and completed projects, including the Snakebite Treatment Hospital, youth centres, local government secretariats, staff quarters, schools, markets and renovated traditional palaces.
“This review has not only allowed us to assess projects but also to engage with the people directly and understand the impact of these developments. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s clear that the people appreciate the progress under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership,” he said.
Security was a key issue during the tour, with ALGON pledging to hold monthly meetings with local stakeholders to tackle persistent threats in some councils. Anani stressed the importance of addressing insecurity while consolidating development efforts at the grassroots.
Throughout the tour, ALGON executives commended the governor’s leadership style. According to Anani, no local government had to borrow to fund projects under the current administration, as outstanding debts were cleared and resources prudently managed.
“The people of Plateau are happy with the level of development taking place under this administration, and they are already calling on His Excellency to continue beyond 2027,” he added.
The peer review began in Qua’pan, Shendam, Mikang, Langtang South and Langtang North before moving through Wase, Kanam, Kanke, Pankshin, Mangu and Bokkos. It concluded after stops in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos South, Jos North, Bassa and Jos East.
Anani said the initiative was not only about inspecting physical projects but also about fostering unity among council executives and ensuring communities were active participants in shaping their futures.
“This tour gave us the opportunity to not only assess projects but also to bring local government executives together, share best practices, and address the challenges we face collectively,” he said.
