An accident scene
A devastating accident on the Benin–Sagamu Road in Edo State claimed four lives and left eight others injured on Tuesday, according to authorities.
Edo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, disclosed this to journalists in Benin on Tuesday.
He said “The incident occurred at the Ovia Bridge axis in Ovia North-East Local Government Area when a truck from Lagos lost control and collided with five vehicles.”
The collision involved 19 passengers—14 men, four women, and one male child.
Mathew noted, “Three victims trapped in their vehicles died instantly, and another passed away later at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital,” bringing the death toll to four.
Speeding and driver distraction were identified as the primary causes.
Mathew emphasized, “Motorists must maintain their vehicles, adhere to speed limits, and stay vigilant on the road to prevent such tragedies.”
