Taraba State Government has launched a free and compulsory education enrollment campaign aimed at significantly reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), seeks to ensure every child has access to quality education for a brighter future.
TSUBEB Executive Chairman, Mrs. Christiana Binga officiated the campaign’s launch at Sunkani Central Primary School in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area. Speaking at the event, she emphasized that the campaign, in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), aligns with Governor Agbu Kefas’ policy of providing free and compulsory basic education.
“The goal of this enrollment drive is to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children in Taraba State and ensure every child’s right to education,” Binga stated.
“I urge parents and stakeholders to collaborate with the government to get all children into classrooms. From here, we will extend the campaign to all local government areas, leaving no stone unturned to secure a better future for our state.”
Binga also revealed that the state government has trained teachers to manage classes from nursery through primary and up to Junior Secondary School (JSS) levels, with JSS 1-3 now under TSUBEB’s supervision.
During the launch, the state government distributed free school uniforms, shoes, bags, and books to students, reinforcing its commitment to accessible education.
The campaign is a critical step toward addressing the longstanding challenge of out-of-school children in Taraba State, with plans to expand enrollment efforts across all local government areas.
