Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is grieving the loss of eight personnel killed in a brutal ambush by suspected kidnappers in Okpella, Edo State, on Friday night.
The attack, which also left four officers critically injured and a Chinese expatriate abducted, occurred during a routine patrol escorting expatriates at the BUA Cement Company.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the NSCDC’s national Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, detailed the three-hour ordeal, noting that the operatives faced heavily armed assailants.
“Our team’s convoy was viciously attacked by gunmen,” the statement said, adding that four Chinese expatriates were rescued unharmed.
NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, called the incident “heart-wrenching,” vowing that the fallen officers’ sacrifices would be honored.
“Their dedication and patriotism will remain etched in our memory,” he stated.
The Corps pledged full support for the bereaved families, including condolence visits and honorable burials, and committed to covering medical costs for the injured officers.
Condemning the attack, the NSCDC emphasized its resolve: “We are working tirelessly with other security agencies to rescue the abducted expatriate and bring the culprits to justice.”
The statement reaffirmed the Corps’ dedication, declaring, “This heinous act will not weaken our commitment to protecting national assets and infrastructure.”
