A tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at New Garage claimed one life and left nine others injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The incident, which occurred around 6:55 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, involved a collision between a white Iveco truck (registration MEK 34 XC) and a white Toyota commercial bus (registration ENU 814 XJ).
Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, FRSC Public Education Officer, shared details of the crash in a statement to journalists in Lagos.
“The accident resulted in the death of one male passenger, with eight males and one female sustaining various injuries. Unfortunately, no passenger was unharmed,” Jayeola said.
She noted that the FRSC rescue team promptly evacuated the injured to the Emergency Centre in Ojota and Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to Real Divine Hospital Mortuary in Ibafo.
“Our team cleared the obstruction quickly, restoring normal traffic flow,” she added.
Preliminary investigations, according to Jayeola, indicated that speeding and road obstruction were the primary causes of the crash.
“We are still investigating, but early findings suggest these factors played a significant role,” she stated.
The vehicles involved have been handed over to the MTD Police, Ojodu Abiodun Division, for further investigation.
Corps Commander Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“Speeding continues to be a leading cause of avoidable crashes, particularly during the ember months,” Hamzat remarked, urging drivers to prioritize patience and focus on the road.
He reaffirmed the FRSC’s dedication to ensuring safer highways and protecting lives and property nationwide.
