
Kano State has secured the top position in the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) organized by the National Examinations Council (NECO), showcasing remarkable academic excellence.
According to a statement from Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, this achievement reflects the state’s robust educational reforms and consistent investment in the sector.

Governor Yusuf credited the success to his administration’s focus on education, stating, “Our reforms are clearly yielding results, and this outstanding performance by our students proves that Kano is on the right path.”
The results, released by NECO, revealed that 68,159 candidates from Kano achieved five credits or more, including English and Mathematics, highlighting the state’s academic prowess.
The governor emphasized ongoing efforts to provide free uniforms, furniture, and learning materials, alongside the rehabilitation of dilapidated classrooms.
He further noted that the state’s 2025 budget allocates 31% to education, underscoring a strong commitment to transformative reforms.
“We will continue to recruit and train teachers to sustain and elevate this performance,” Yusuf added.
Recalled that NECO announced the 2025 SSCE results on Wednesday, 54 days after the final exam.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed in Minna, Niger State, that 818,492 of the 1,358,339 candidates nationwide—representing 60.26%—secured five credits or higher, including Mathematics and English.
Yusuf also praised stakeholders for their contributions to the state’s educational advancements, noting their critical role in this milestone.
