Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has successfully neutralized over 10 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during precision air strikes in the Timbuktu Triangle, spanning parts of Borno and Yobe states.
According to reliable sources, on January 13, intelligence gathered from Army unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) revealed the movement and gathering of ISWAP elements along the Ambia Tasha, Ambia Sheruri, Ambia Turo, and Shangamaru axis in Yobe State.
Based on this actionable intelligence, the Air Component conducted precision strikes targeting terrorist assets, including motorcycles. Early assessments indicate substantial losses for the insurgents, with more than 10 neutralized.
“We observed about 10 terrorists with motorcycles and bicycles gathered under a large, thick tree, with the likelihood of more concealed within the canopy. We were tasked to engage, and the strike was executed precisely. Post-strike observation indicated overwhelming neutralisation, with only one individual seen fleeing the impact area,” sources said.
The Air Component reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against terrorist networks. “These operations demonstrate our resolve to deny terrorists freedom of movement, degrade their logistics, and protect communities. Air surveillance and precision engagement will continue in close coordination with ground forces until remaining threats are neutralised,” the sources added.
The recent strikes underscore the Nigerian military’s intensified focus on eliminating insurgent threats and securing vulnerable communities in the Northeast.
