Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas
All roads will lead to Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, as Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the National Assembly and other top dignitaries converge for the formal decamping ceremony of Governor Agbu Kefas from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Senate President Akpabio has already confirmed his attendance at the event.
In a video shared on his social media handle, the Senator representing Taraba South, Senator David Jimkuta, was seen in a vehicle with Akpabio, where he informed the public that the Senate President would be in Jalingo on Saturday to officially receive Governor Kefas into the APC.
Governor Kefas had officially detected to the APC about two weeks ago during the flag-off of the party’s ongoing e-registration exercise in Wukari, his hometown.
At the event, the governor explained that his decision to leave the PDP was informed by his desire to align with what he described as the progressive agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Confirming the visit of the high-profile dignitaries, the Director of Publicity of the APC in Taraba State, Mr. Aeron Atimas, said the ceremony would be historic, not only for party members but also for the state at large. He revealed that the event would witness a massive influx of new members across the 16 local government areas of the state.
> “We shall be having a trumpet entry of mass defection of all the councillors, all the local government council chairmen, all the members of the Taraba State House of Assembly and all the National Assembly members, both the senators and members of the House of Representatives in the state, to our great party,” Atimas said.
He further disclosed that Vice President Kashim Shettima, who hails from the North-East, is expected at the ceremony alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC governors and several members of the National Assembly. According to him, the event goes beyond party politics and holds significant implications for the development of the state.
> “Now that we belong to the ruling party, it is expected that development should start striving across the state. Their coming is a booster to our infrastructural and economic growth,” Atimas added.
Meanwhile, investigations by our correspondent revealed that the decamping ceremony was initially scheduled for November 2025 but was postponed in solidarity with families of schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State by unknown gunmen last year.
