Senegal has firmly rejected the recent rulings from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), insisting it will remain the reigning champions of AFCON.
The decision has sparked a flurry of reactions online, with fans and commentators weighing in. Daniel Regha, a well-known online critic known for weighing in on various issues, took to Instagram to voice his support for Senegal’s stance, joining a growing chorus questioning CAF’s verdicts.
“CAF remains an epitome of disgrace to Africans and African football,” he stated.
“Any trophy that wasn’t won on the pitch after the final whistle is invalid,” he continued.
“Morocco had their chance and lost. Senegal ARE and WILL remain the rightful winners of the 2025 AFCON tournament. The world saw their efforts and what played out.
“Sadio Mane’s effort will not be wasted, nor will that of his teammates.
“Anyone who supports this biased decision should be ashamed of themselves,” he concluded.
Joining the conversation, ultimatekombo, a football analyst on Instagram, argued that “nobody will acknowledge this development of Morocco as new champions except Moroccans themselves.
The Moroccan Football Association should come out and declare that they don’t need the trophy and it should be handed back to Senegal if they don’t want backlash from African countries. There is no honor in winning like this.”
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has also weighed in.
According to AP News, the federation described CAF’s ruling as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable,” saying it discredits African football and confirming it will challenge the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The controversy is far from over, with CAF now facing mounting pressure from fans, football authorities, and Senegal’s looming legal challenge.
