Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria following a decision reached at the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.
Announcing the resolution on its official platform, the party declared, “NDC presidential ticket is zoned to the South!!” while also confirming that the candidate would serve a single four-year term.
The party further disclosed that its 2031 presidential ticket has already been reserved for Northern Nigeria as part of its zoning arrangement.
Top opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, were present in Abuja for the convention alongside other party leaders.

The convention is expected to ratify recent decisions of the party’s National Executive Committee, including amendments to the party constitution, zoning arrangements, and the election of national officers.
The NDC has recently witnessed a wave of defections from rival political parties such as the ADC and PDP, strengthening its growing national profile ahead of the 2027 elections.
On Tuesday, 17 members of the House of Representatives formally dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the NDC, with their defections announced during plenary at the National Assembly.
The lawmakers’ move came barely two days after Obi and Kwankwaso officially joined the NDC from the ADC, where they were welcomed by former Bayelsa State governor and party leader, Seriake Dickson, amid cheers from supporters.
