In their continued display of gallantry, troops of Sector 2 Joint Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised no fewer than 5 terrorists and recovered 5 AK-47 rifles in Sokoto and Zamfara States.
Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army / Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba disclosed this in a statement released on Thursday.
According to him, troops of the operation struck terrorist enclaves across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States intending to protect and neutralise terrorists.
“In Sokoto State, on 25 March 2026, troops of COAS Intervention Battalion VII made two separate contacts with terrorists at Magonho Forest where they eliminated three bandits and recovered three AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.
“In Zamfara State, on 25 March 2026, troops executed a successful ambush along the Gada Maya – Makakari Village road, neutralising two terrorists and forcing others to retreat in disarray. The operation led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one Baofeng radio, two mobile phones, and one motorcycle.”
Lt. Col. Osoba added that terrorists attempted to retaliate by attacking Kaida Village the same day after falsely claiming that the villagers collaborated with security forces. However, troops responded swiftly, neutralising additional terrorists and recovering another AK-47 rifle.
Continuing, Osoba said troops also acted on credible intelligence and conducted a clearance operation in Dutsi Village, Moriki District, Zurmi Local Government Area, forcing terrorists to abandon one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition as they fled under sustained military pressure.
“In Kebbi State, troops received information on the Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) presence in Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area. While responding, they were ambushed 500 metres before the village. Despite the ambush by the fleeing terrorists, the troops remained undeterred as reinforcements and combat enablers have been deployed to the area, and intelligence-led operations to track and neutralise the fleeing terrorists are ongoing,”.
Given the troops’ dedication to ending insecurity in the region, Lt. Col. Osoba stated that troops of the 8 Division/Sector 2 OPFY remain resolute in their mission to dominate the operational space, degrade terrorist capabilities, and protect law-abiding citizens. He added that troops are operating at a high morale, which is a testament to their professionalism, courage, and commitment to serving the nation.
