Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has been named the 2026 Governor of the Year at the National Leadership Awards held on Tuesday in Abuja.
The organisers said the award recognises the governor’s people-oriented leadership and notable strides in restoring security, promoting social cohesion, and advancing infrastructure development across the state.
Presenting the award at the event, Team Lead of the National Leadership Summit Group, Chief BJ Opara, described Sani’s leadership style as impactful and exemplary.
“Governor Uba Sani exemplifies the leadership Nigeria urgently needs resilient in confronting security challenges, deliberate in uniting a diverse populace, and steadfast in delivering tangible development.
“Kaduna’s trajectory under his watch is a compelling model of purposeful governance,” he said.
Represented by the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, the governor dedicated the award to the people of Kaduna State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace and development.
“This award reflects the collective resolve of our people and our administration’s unwavering commitment to peace, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.
“We remain focused on consolidating these gains for a safer and more united Kaduna,” the governor said.
Maiyaki noted that the administration has recorded improvements in the security situation through intelligence led operations, enhanced collaboration with security agencies, and increased community engagement.
According to him, these efforts have led to a reduction in incidents of banditry and renewed public confidence, particularly in previously affected communities.
He also highlighted the government’s peacebuilding and reconciliation initiatives, which he said have helped bridge long-standing ethnic and religious divides, while fostering unity across the state.
In addition, the commissioner pointed to ongoing investments in critical infrastructure aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving the living conditions of residents.
The National Leadership Awards is regarded as one of the country’s prominent platforms for recognising excellence in governance and public service.
