
Canon Obiechefu
A United States of America (USA)- based Imo State indigene, Canon Ifeanyi Obiechefu, has commended Nigerian workers for their sacrifices, perseverance and dedication to the economic development of the country.
The Apostle of Good Governance, Obiechefu extols the impact of Nigerian workers in promoting peace, unity, economic progress and stability, stressing that the Nigerian workers are special gift of God upon Nigeria.
He urged the federal government to harness the “special gift” from God for the development and growth of the country.
He particularly acknowledged the impact of Nigerian workers in advancing the nation’s socio-economy through their dogged zeal, praising extoling their spirit of nation building, unity and resilient and tolerance of Nigerians. He noted that workers’ daily sacrifices continue to sustain the Nigerian economy.
Obiechefu while wondering over the workers’ unwavering commitment said despite the challenges they face arising from worsening economic hardship, increasing insecurity, abject neglect, Nigerian they are forging ahead to build a better country for everyone.
The US-based Cleric made the remarks in commemoration of Workers’ Day, held on May 1 across the world.
He told The First Mail newspaper in his Workers Day message that Nigerian workers deserve better deals from their governments at the federal, state and sub-national.
The Apostle of Good Governance said any administration that fails to focus on good governance is already doomed. He called on the governments to reciprocate the workers’ nation-building spirit, challenging the governments to seize the opportunity of May 1 to reflect on the dignity of labour and the essential role workers play in nation-building. He called for improved wages and welfare for Nigerian workers beyond the workers’ Day celebration.
Obiechefu also used the opportunity to call on the workers to vote for politicians who make their welfare a priority.
The Cleric who spoke to The First Mail newspaper from his New York residence, US, said if there is good governance in place, it will manifest in workers getting their monthly salaries as at when due, adding, “and when they retire their pension will be paid without delay”.
He challenged the workers who form majority of voting population to vote out bad government in the coming general elections, while also enjoining them to rededicate themselves to values of hard work, integrity and shun corruption.
