PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara
Fresh cracks have emerged within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) following the appointment of a 13-member interim National Working Committee (NWC) by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) led by Senator Adolphus Wabara.
The decision, which underscores the deepening leadership tussle within the opposition party, comes in the wake of a Supreme Court judgment that upheld the nullification of the party’s Ibadan National Convention.
Speaking on the development, Wabara said the move was in line with the provisions of the PDP constitution, stressing that the court’s verdict had effectively created a vacuum in the party’s leadership structure.
He maintained that urgent steps were necessary to stabilise the party and ensure continuity in its operations.
The newly constituted 13-member interim NWC is headed by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, who now leads what observers describe as a parallel leadership structure within the party.
The decision to set up the interim leadership was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened by the Turaki-led bloc of the PDP. The meeting took place at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
The latest development is expected to intensify internal disputes within the PDP, as rival factions continue to jostle for control ahead of future electoral contests.
Analysts say the emergence of an interim NWC could further complicate reconciliation efforts, with the party now facing a critical test of unity and direction.
