Theatre Command of Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), and the Adamawa State Government have restated their resolve to deepen collaboration aimed at strengthening security operations, enhancing rapid response capacity, and ensuring the protection of lives and property across Adamawa State and the wider North East region.
This renewed commitment was made during a three-day operational assessment visit by the Theatre Commander of OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, to Adamawa State, following recent security concerns in parts of the region.
According to a statement released on Monday in Maiduguri by the Media Information Officer at Headquarters, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the assessment visit took place between Thursday, 30th April and Saturday, 2nd May, 2026.
During a courtesy visit to the Adamawa State Government House, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, expressed appreciation to the military for their sustained efforts in stabilising the state despite recent security setbacks.
“Adamawa State remains committed to maintaining its status as a safe haven. We will continue to invest in human capital, technology, and security infrastructure to support ongoing operations and enhance safety across the state,” she stated.
She further highlighted the importance of local security support systems, commending the role of vigilantes, hunters, and forest guards, describing them as critical partners in sustaining peace due to their deep community ties and local intelligence advantage.
The state government also pledged continued investment in mobility assets, surveillance infrastructure, and digital security technologies to improve intelligence gathering and strengthen response times across affected communities.
In his remarks, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar said the visit was aimed at conducting a comprehensive assessment of ongoing operations and addressing emerging security threats within the theatre of operation.
He commended the Adamawa State Government for its consistent support to military operations, noting that such collaboration has remained vital to sustaining security gains in the region.
The Theatre Commander also highlighted key operational developments, recalling the establishment of Sector 4 under Operation HADIN KAI in August 2025. The sector was created to close existing security gaps between Southern Borno and Northern Adamawa.
He explained that the sector currently covers 10 local government areas, spanning about 16,000 square kilometres of challenging terrain, requiring a coordinated and adaptive security response.
According to him, the military has adopted a multi-layered strategy combining troop deployment, advanced technology, and strong community engagement to address the complex security environment.
He further disclosed that ongoing initiatives by Defence and Army Headquarters include the deployment of special forces, provision of combat enablers, and the training and empowerment of local security groups to act as first responders in remote communities.
Major General Abubakar also revealed that additional military formations have been approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, to further strengthen operational presence in Adamawa State.
He emphasised that modern security challenges require more than troop deployment alone, stressing the need for enhanced surveillance systems and improved intelligence-sharing mechanisms to ensure swift response to threats.
While addressing troops, hunters, and vigilantes at Mubi and Tella Balla in Gombi Local Government Area, the Theatre Commander urged heightened vigilance, warning that intensified operations in other parts of OPHK could push insurgents into new locations.
He stressed the importance of protecting vulnerable communities, strengthening intelligence gathering, and identifying individuals collaborating with hostile elements.
The visit forms part of broader efforts to reassess and reinforce security strategies across the North East, with the ultimate goal of achieving lasting peace, stability, and improved safety for citizens.
Major General Abubakar was accompanied by the Commander of Sector 4 OPHK, Brigadier General Amaechi Agwu, other field commanders, and principal staff officers from Headquarters Theatre Command OPHK.
The visit featured inspections of the Quarter Guard, operational briefings, interactive sessions with troops, addresses to personnel, exchange of souvenirs, signing of the visitors’ register, and group photographs.
