Former Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo
A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pointing to evolving political dynamics as the driving force behind his decision.
The resignation, conveyed in a letter dated May 1, 2026, was addressed to the ADC chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area. A copy of the letter was sighted by NATIONAL ACCORD correspondent.
According to Gwarzo, his exit from the party takes immediate effect.
“The decision follows careful thought and consultations with my associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state,” he said.
He explained that recent shifts within the political landscape necessitated a personal and strategic reassessment of his party affiliation.
“The changing political climate has made it necessary for me to reassess my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and country,” he stated.
The former deputy governor further noted that his move aligns with his broader commitment to public service and principled leadership.
“My decision is based on patriotic reasons and the need to follow a political direction that reflects my vision for good governance, democratic principles, and sustainable development,” he said.
Despite his departure, Gwarzo expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership and rank-and-file members for their support during his time in the ADC.
“I sincerely thank the leadership and members of the party for their cooperation, respect, and support,” he added.
While he did not disclose his next political destination, political observers believe his resignation may be connected to ongoing alliances and repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
