
Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have arrested five suspected criminals following an attack on communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lt. Umar Muhammad, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Saturday.
Lt. Muhammad said the arrests were made after soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Karim Lamido responded to a distress call reporting an attack by armed men on communities within the local government area on Thursday, June 4.
According to him, the troops moved swiftly to the scene but came under fire from unidentified gunmen upon arrival.
“The soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to flee in different directions.
He said the troops immediately launched a pursuit operation and succeeded in apprehending five suspects believed to be connected to the attack.
Items recovered from the suspects included two motorcycles, daggers, machetes, assorted charms, gunpowder and five mobile phones.
The Army said the operation highlights ongoing efforts to rid communities of criminal elements and improve security across Taraba State.
Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, praised the troops for their professionalism, courage and gallantry during the operation.
He reiterated the directive of the Chief of Army Staff for personnel to remain vigilant and sustain the ongoing offensive against criminal elements operating within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
Akaliro also assured residents of Taraba State that troops would continue to track down criminal elements wherever they may be hiding, maintaining pressure on all threats to peace and security until normalcy is fully restored across the state.
He said the military remains committed to denying criminals freedom of action and protecting lives and property in the state.
