Social Democratic Party (SDP) has debunked reports suggesting that it has withdrawn from the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Araba Aiyenigba, the SDP reaffirmed that its governorship candidate, Ambassador Isaac Alade, remains firmly in the race and will participate in the election.
Aiyenigba noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had officially listed the SDP on the ballot and that Alade was among the candidates who signed the peace accord ahead of the poll.
He alleged that the reports claiming the party had pulled out of the election were being circulated by political opponents and individuals who have no legitimate standing within the party.
According to him, certain groups are deliberately attempting to create confusion over the SDP’s participation in the election and urged the public to disregard such reports.
The party also raised concerns over what it described as INEC’s failure to grant it access to upload the names of its polling unit agents for the election.
Aiyenigba explained that although the electoral commission provided an access code to the party’s national secretariat, officials allegedly did not open the required portal for the submission of agents’ details.
He warned that the situation could affect the credibility of the electoral process and potentially disenfranchise the party.
“SDP remains committed to participating in the election and providing a credible alternative platform for the people of Ekiti State,” he said.
Aiyenigba further reaffirmed the party’s dedication to credible elections, democratic governance and national development.
