Nigerian military has recorded fresh operational gains in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East, with troops of Operation HADIN KAI repelling an attack by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), rescuing kidnapped victims and dismantling suspected terrorist logistics networks across Borno and Adamawa states.
The latest achievements were disclosed by the Nigerian Army in a post shared on its official X handle on Wednesday.
According to the Army, troops have sustained pressure on terrorist groups through intelligence-driven operations, search-and-rescue missions and coordinated security efforts aimed at restricting insurgents’ activities across the theatre of operations.
As part of ongoing Search and Rescue operations on July 7, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion operating in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State rescued two more abductees from a terrorist hideout.
The operation also led to the recovery of N1.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, alongside food items and other supplies believed to have supported terrorist operations.
The Army said the rescued victims have been moved to a secure location where they are receiving medical attention and psychosocial support.
In another major operation, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area successfully repelled a coordinated assault launched by ISWAP fighters.
According to the Army, the insurgents briefly breached part of the base’s defensive perimeter during the fierce exchange of gunfire before troops regrouped and launched a counter-attack that forced the terrorists to retreat.
The military stated that several terrorists were killed, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
The Army, however, confirmed the loss of one soldier during the encounter and disclosed that two gun trucks and some combat equipment were damaged.
Despite the attack, the military assured that the base remains fully under the control of Operation HADIN KAI forces, with reinforcements deployed and follow-up operations ongoing to strengthen security around the location.
In Adamawa State, troops of the 232 Battalion, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a suspected notorious criminal in Gombi Local Government Area.
Subsequent exploitation of the arrest led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The suspect remains in military custody as investigations continue to identify other members of the criminal network.
Similarly, troops of the 149 Battalion arrested two suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.
Items recovered during the operation included cash, a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, construction materials, household items and other supplies suspected to have been intended for terrorist elements.
The Army said the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, troops of the 24 Task Force Brigade, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, also carried out a clearance operation around Wulgo.
During the exercise, the troops recovered a sack containing assorted illicit drugs abandoned by fleeing insurgents after they retreated from their hideouts.
The Nigerian Army said the latest operations demonstrate the sustained offensive against terrorist groups, disrupting their logistics networks, restricting their movement and strengthening security across the North-East.
