Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde interacting with one of the rescued teachers
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has visited the pupils and teachers rescued after their abduction in Oriire Local Government Area, describing their safe return as a moment of gratitude and relief for Oyo State.
The governor met the victims at the Headquarters of the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan, where they are receiving medical care after their release from captivity.
Makinde disclosed that all 39 pupils and five of the seven abducted teachers had been rescued, giving glory to God while commending the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their efforts.
He, however, revealed that some security personnel lost their lives during the rescue mission and extended his condolences to their families, saying their sacrifices would not be forgotten.

The governor said the rescued pupils and teachers were delighted to regain their freedom but noted that many appeared physically weak and would need medical treatment as well as psychosocial support.
According to him, the victims will remain under medical observation for 48 hours before an assessment is carried out and they are formally handed over to the Oyo State Government for rehabilitation.
Makinde also disclosed that arrangements were underway for family members to visit the victims, adding that one young girl had repeatedly asked to see her mother since she regained freedom.
He urged Nigerians to remain united in tackling security challenges and said he would brief the people of Oyo State and the country next week on the circumstances surrounding the abduction and the successful rescue operation.
