All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 18 chairmanship seats and 192 councillorship positions in the Edo State local government elections, according to the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC).
Announcing the results in Benin City on Sunday, EDSIEC Chairman Jonathan Aifuobhokhan said the election was conducted in line with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law and other electoral guidelines.
He said the processes of accreditation, voting, counting, collation and declaration of results were successfully completed across the state’s 18 local government areas.
Aifuobhokhan added that the commission’s returning officers carried out their responsibilities professionally and impartially throughout the exercise.
He declared that the APC secured victory in every chairmanship and councillorship contest, giving the ruling party a clean sweep of the polls.
The EDSIEC chairman acknowledged minor operational challenges in some areas but said they were not enough to affect either the conduct or outcome of the election, describing the exercise as generally peaceful.
He commended voters for their participation and appreciated Governor Monday Okpebholo for allowing the commission to operate without interference, adding that certificates of return would be presented to the winners on Monday.
Aifuobhokhan urged any aggrieved political party or candidate to seek redress through the appropriate legal channels, stressing the commission’s commitment to improving future elections.
