The National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mai Mala Buni has condemned the murder of Musa Baraza, a lawmaker representing Dass Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, and described it as unfortunate.
NATIONAL ACCORD had reported that unknown gunmen on Friday attacked and killed Baraza, in his house in Dass.
The gunmen had kidnapped the two wives and one year old daughter of the deceased.
However, after spending about four days in captivity, the two wives and child of the deceased were rescued by the Police on Monday.
Buni, who is also the Yobe state governor, who was represented by the North East Vice Chairman of the Party, Professor Tahir Mamman, and some officials of the party during a condolence visit to the Bauchi state governor, said the murder of the lawmaker is a wake up call to improve the security situation in the country.
“The killing of the late APC lawmaker as a reminder of the security challenges confronting the country despite the progress so far made in tackling the challenges by the government.
“Your Excellency, we are here from the National Secretariat of the APC sent by the Chairman, His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni to condole with the immediate family of the late lawmaker, Government and people of Bauchi state over his demise.
“We know Bauchi is a peaceful state and free from criminal activities but unfortunately this has happened,” he said.
The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman who led the delegation for the condolence visit to the governor, said the APC national officials are in the state to sympathize and condole with stakeholders over the death of the state lawmaker.
Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed, in a response, expressed gratitude to APC national officials for the condolence visit.
Mohammed who said the demise of the lawmaker was a sad incident, extolled his virtues describing him as a gentleman who was connected with his constituents.
He said his administration is working in active synergy with security agencies to identify those involved in the killing, so that they will face the full wrath of the law.
“We are grateful to the APC for this auspicious visit paid to us as a government over the demise of one of our best and a legislature per excellence, Honorable Musa Marte Baraza.
“Late Baraza was a gentleman per excellence, I was saddened with his killing because he is a team player to me despite our differences in political party,” he said.
The Governor commended members of the Security Special Task Force for working vigorously which resulted to the rescue of the wives and daughter of the slain lawmaker.
He said: “I am happy to report to you that the abducted family members of the late lawmaker have been released now unconditionally.”
