The management of Al-Qalam University in Katsina State has debunked the reports making the rounds on social media that there was a bomb blast at the university’s campus.

In a statement on Saturday, The spokesperson for the university, Alhaji Akilu Abubakar, called on the public to disregard the reports of the blast in the social media, saying it was “fake news”.

“The attention of the university has been drawn to a story trending on the social media about a purported bomb blast at the school on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022″

“The university wishes to dispel the story as unfortunate, unfounded, fake, and misleading.

“What happened was that a moving truck along Dutsin-ma Road experienced tyre-burst around 8:30 pm, but mischief makers capitalised on the incident to spread the fake news about a bomb blast inside the university,” he said.

Abubakar said the public should disregard the fake information, as the University was safe.

He added that the university was carrying out an investigation to identify the source of the fake information.
