Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar following reports that he has registered with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urging him to put an end to what it called his “persistent political restlessness.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, APC spokesperson in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, described Atiku’s latest political move as yet another stop in “a pattern of unending political migration.”
He argued that switching parties at the age of 80 only reinforces public perception that the former vice-president is chasing a mandate that simply isn’t his to claim.
According to Oladejo, Nigerians have made their position clear at the polls.
“Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar must realise that the 2027 presidency is not calling his name. What the nation expects from him at this stage is reflection, not another cycle of party-hopping,” he said.
Oladejo also accused Atiku’s frequent defections of contributing to instability within political parties, insisting that the time had come for him to step aside and let the political landscape evolve without what he called needless distractions.
He maintained that the country is currently under “focused and responsible leadership,” and urged Atiku to discontinue “political excursions that lead only to confusion.”
Although Atiku has not publicly declared interest in the 2027 presidential race, his move to the ADC has sparked speculation about another possible run.
The former vice-president, who has contested the presidency multiple times, has yet to comment on the latest political storm surrounding him.
