FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed reports suggesting that all government schools in the FCT would shut down on Nov. 28, describing the claim as entirely fabricated.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, issued a statement in Abuja on Tuesday making it clear that no directive for school closure was ever issued.
According to Olayinka, “no such decision was taken at any level of the administration,” urging parents, students and school authorities to ignore what he called a false and misleading rumour.
He noted that the official academic calendar remains intact with no changes approved.
He assured residents—particularly students and their families—that security within the capital remains a top priority. Olayinka added that the minister had ordered the full resumption of Operation Sweep alongside other security measures to maintain calm and safety across the territory.
In a separate development, the minister has directed the immediate suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo. The Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Nathan, has also been instructed to take disciplinary action against the Director of School Services, Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in line with civil service regulations.
The FCTA reiterated that teaching and learning activities will continue without disruption and encouraged the public to rely on official communication channels for verified information.
