All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has taken a swipe at former governor and current senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful development to his home local government area during his eight years in office.
The criticism came on Thursday during a meeting of the Contact Mobilisation and Enlightenment Forum for Governor Ahmed Aliyu in Tambuwal Local Government Area, held in Sokoto metropolis.
Speaking on the purpose of the gathering, the forum’s vice chairman, Faruk Dayyabu, said the meeting was aimed at harnessing the vast human resources embedded in the youths and people of Tambuwal LGA.
According to him, the initiative also seeks to help youths, women and children understand that politics “is not violent, not bitterness and should not be used as a means of dividing their brotherly love.”
Dayyabu further explained that the engagement was designed to enlighten young people on the importance of respecting leaders, including political office holders, while also appreciating Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration for what he described as its deep love and respect for the people of Tambuwal LGA.
Addressing the gathering, Sokoto State APC Chairman, Sadiq Isa Achida, expressed confidence in the leadership capacity of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, citing what he described as the governor’s impressive performance since assuming office.
Achida alleged that former governor Tambuwal neglected his hometown, insisting that no visible projects were executed in Tambuwal LGA throughout his eight-year tenure as governor.
The APC chairman also questioned Tambuwal’s current political direction, claiming he had learnt that the former governor was involved in forming another political movement aimed at challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Wondering aloud over the move, Achida described the alleged coalition as “the same old politicians moving from one party to another,” dismissing it as “old wine in a new bottle.”
“They claim to be a new movement, but the people are not new to us. They are the same politicians who failed our state and country in the past,” Achida noted.
In contrast, the APC chairman maintained that Governor Ahmed Aliyu, though not an indigene of Tambuwal, has done more to prioritise grassroots development in Tambuwal LGA and across the state than his predecessor.
Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Hon. Aminu Haliru Dikko, said the people of Tambuwal LGA had supported Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s political career for over three decades but were not adequately compensated for their loyalty.
He urged politicians and public office holders to always reciprocate the support of the electorate through meaningful service, rather than waiting until election seasons.
Highlighting the achievements of the current administration, Dikko said, “Anyone who visits Sokoto today can attest to the tremendous transformation taking place across the entire state, which is proof of good governance.”
He disclosed that Governor Ahmed Aliyu has so far appointed 83 indigenes of Tambuwal LGA into various positions, including commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries and board members.
According to him, more than 8,000 individuals have also benefited from financial support under the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration, with each beneficiary receiving over ₦100,000.
Dikko declined to comment on speculations surrounding any personal political ambition, stating that party members act in line with the directives of their leader and mentor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, whose guidance, he said, has continued to strengthen the party.
Other prominent APC stakeholders from Tambuwal LGA, including the council chairman, the commissioner for Higher Education and several party leaders, unanimously expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory not only in Sokoto State but across Nigeria, citing what they described as inclusive governance and people-oriented policies.
