Benue State Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari
A traditional ruler in Orokam and Owukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, His Royal Highness, Chief Joseph Onyirokwu Ikwuje has lauded the collaborative efforts of the Commissioner of Police in Benue State in the fight against crime.
Speaking in Makurdi during the formal presentation of a hilux van to the DPO in the area for better performance, the monarch disclosed that “we have a lot of security challenges in Ogbadibo LGA particularly, in Orokam and Owukpa and when I spoke to the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Enemari on the issue, he responded aptly by posting a DPO to the area.
“When I discovered that the DPO was very active and committed to his duties, I had to try my best by complimenting his efforts but discovering that the challenges he was facing in carryinh out his duties effectively which included lack of vehicle, I requested for a vehicle from the Police. He provided a Hilux pick up van for me but it was not road worthy, so I had to fix it to an enviable standard. That is why I have come to present it to the police command which will be assigned to the DPO to carry out his duties effectively.”
According to the traditional ruler, the DPO has performed very well in the area emphasizing that the Orokam community is enjoying relative peace now.
He lamented that youths were the ones causing problems in the area and called on them to work and earn a living from it so that they would stop committing crime, adding that when they do not have anything doing they engage in such acts.
He however appreciated God that the tension in that area was calm
Responding on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Benue State Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari, appreciated the traditional ruler for the kind gesture that he had demonstrated.
“We gave you this vehicle which was almost like a scrap, but you have fixed it to an enviable standard.
“Glory be to God that the criminals have seen the action of the government, the Police and other security agencies in the area. That is a team work which include the traditional institutions because if they did not give the required support, they won’t achieve the results we are having now.
“We also want to thank the Almighty God because it is one thing to do our best and it is another thing for him to give us the grace. With a traditional ruler like you, the community deserves relative peace. Now see what you have done with the pick up van which was almost like a scrap and we gave to you and you have transformed it into an operational vehicle.
“We extend the appreciation of the IG of Police to people like you. Thank God that we have plenty of good people like you in Benue State and as the police, we are here to carry out the directives of the IG of Police, to ensure that the desired peace that Benue State required is in place, restored and sustained.
A community member, identified as Agada, commended the police for the intensified operations in the community and urged the CP to maintain the gesture.
“The DPO you sent to our community is committed and dedicated and we are now enjoying relative peace in the area.
“We pray God to bless you and give you more wisdom to continue to carry out your assignment dutifully.” He said.
