
Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. O. O. Oluyede

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. O. O. Oluyede, has called on troops to reflect on the values of selflessness, discipline, unity, and renewed commitment to peace, generosity, and selflessness as the nation celebrates Eid-el-Fitr.
Speaking at the COAS 2025 Eid-el-Fitr Sallah luncheon held at Lt. Col. B.U Umar ports Complex Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, Lt. Gen. Oluyede stressed the importance of unity, mutual respect, and peaceful co-existence.

“Eid-el-Fitr is not just a time of celebration but a call to strengthen our bonds as one people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background
“This celebration is a moment to show gratitude to God for life, peace and stability which we have been able to maintain across the country through your sacrifices in the different theatres of operations despite the grave dangers you face.
” Your sacrifices have ensured the security and stability of our country. Demonstrating your resilience, courage and professionalism while discharging your responsibilities .

” In keeping with the tenets of my Command Philosophy, I remain committed to strengthening the operational capacity, welfare and combat readiness of our troops.
“This underscores the vital role of discipline, professionalism and inter-agency collaboration, all of which are crucial in tackling the contemporary security challenges confronting our nation.
“As we celebrate, we must remain mindful of our shared duty to uphold the peace, unity and sovereignty of our beloved country. Our commitment to these ideals reinforces the trust placed in us to safeguard our country’s future.
“This aligns with the strategic objectives of Mr President which prioritizes national security and sustainable development. To our gallant officers and soldiers deployed across various theatres of operations who have continued to demonstrate remarkable courage and resilience in safeguarding the nation.
“Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed and the Nigerian Army remains steadfast to supporting and empowering you as you fulfil your noble duty. I salute your sacrifices, selfless dedication to duty and unwavering determination to safeguard the sanctity of our great nation’s sovereignty and heritage,” COAS said.
The Chief of Army Staff also acknowledged the sacrifices made by troops, saying, “While many are celebrating with their families, our troops remained at their duty posts across the various theatres of operations to safeguard our beloved nation with unwavering resolve.”
Maj. Gen. AGL Haruna, GOC, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, echoed Lt. Gen. Oluyede’s sentiments, urging troops to remain steadfast and committed to their mission.
“I charge officers and soldiers to remain steadfast and committed to our mission.
“Let us continue to work together to ensure the safety and security of our nation, protecting all key national assets and civil populace,” he said.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the government and people of Borno State, who were praised for their support and collaboration in the fight against insurgency.
