Almajiri children
By ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
A non-governmental organisation, Kairos Initiative, has put smiles on the faces of 50 Almajiri children in Bauchi by sewing and giving them clothes to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
The clothes were shared with the kids at the Jumat Mosque, Stella Obasanjo road, GRA, Bauchi. The Executive Director of the Initiative, Dr. Moji Iheme, said that the organisation has been donating such items annually to spread love among the children who may be in need.
Dr. Iheme said that the kind gesture was in collaboration with the Islamic learning centre adding that the clothes were sewn for the 50 Almajiri children according to their measurements.
“The clothes were ready to wear according to the learners’ sizes,” she said. “We’ve been doing this as a way of celebrating the sallah for these children.
“When it’s Christmas, we also extend this same kind of gesture to the less privileged children in the society so as to give them a sense of belonging and out smiles on their faces.”
Malam Mohammed Bambiyo, the lead teacher of the Islamic school, commended the NGO for the timely intervention and consistency, saying this was not the first time they were benefiting from this kind gesture.
Bambiyo who said that the children were in a happy mood with the new clothes to celebrate among each other, expressed appreciation to the management of the NGO and encouraged them to do more for humanity.
He said: “I can tell you that these kids do not have Salah clothes apart from these, coupled with the fact that they are not with their parents.
“Kairos Initiative has been donating to us, sometimes 40 pieces, 50 pieces and so on. There are times they make the donations even with shoes for these children. What I am supposed to do is what they are doing.
“I think, for the past four to five years, we’ve received this donations from this organization and we are very grateful. More than 400 almajiri children have so far benefitted from their kind gesture.
“My prayer for them is that God will open more doors for them to continue with this good work and putting smiles on the less privileged in the society.”
The kids were seen unfolding the clothes and putting them on in excitement. They express joy and prayed for the organisation.
The children who spoke to journalists expressed a deep sense of joy and gratitude for the donation saying “this will enable us also celebrate sallah like other children. We are happy that we have new clothes to wear for the sallah. We thank these good people for reaching out to us, may God bless them.”
