Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and South Africa’s Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in workplace safety, employee compensation and social insurance administration.
The agreement was signed on Thursday in Abuja at the end of a three-day strategic technical engagement involving officials of both organisations.
NSITF Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, led the Nigerian delegation, while RMA Chief Executive Officer, Bilal Adams, headed the South African team.
During the engagement, both sides exchanged ideas and experiences on key areas of social insurance administration, including occupational health and safety, injury prevention, rehabilitation programmes, actuarial modelling and digital transformation.
The MoU provides a framework for technical exchanges and capacity-building initiatives covering workplace safety, rehabilitation systems, claims management, actuarial practices and the use of technology in service delivery.
Both organisations also agreed to share research materials, technical information and industry best practices, subject to applicable regulations and confidentiality requirements.
A Joint Technical Working Group will be established to coordinate activities under the agreement and identify areas where both institutions can work together.
The partnership will also explore prevention and incentive-based models that could support the implementation of Nigeria’s Employees’ Compensation Scheme, while providing opportunities for continued engagement on digital innovation and technology benchmarking.
According to the agreement, any future project, investment or commercial arrangement arising from the MoU will be subject to separate negotiations and approvals in line with the laws and internal procedures of both organisations.
The document, which was reviewed by the legal teams of both institutions before signing, does not create immediate financial obligations for either party. Rather, it serves as a framework for future collaboration.
In a joint statement, NSITF and RMA reaffirmed their commitment to advancing social insurance administration, workplace safety, rehabilitation services and employee compensation through sustained cooperation and knowledge sharing.
The partnership has attracted interest within the social security sector, with observers pointing to RMA’s long history in the administration of occupational injury and disease compensation. Founded in 1894, the South African institution is regarded as one of the continent’s oldest social security organisations.
