Gombe State Government has confirmed the death of its Commissioner for Internal Security, Retired Colonel Abdullahi Bello, who tragically lost his life in a car accident.
In a statement released by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya through his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba-Misilli, the governor disclosed that Bello died alongside his police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Husaini, following a fatal crash on Friday along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road.
Governor Yahaya explained that the late commissioner was on his way back from Maiduguri, Borno State, after participating in the North-East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) framework.
> “We received the heart-breaking news with profound sadness. The late commissioner was a disciplined officer and a dedicated public servant,” the governor said.
He commended Bello’s unwavering commitment to public service, describing him as a man who brought “military precision, leadership, and patriotism” to his duties.
> “Bello will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage, and selfless service,” Yahaya added. “He carried out his responsibilities with unmatched diligence and a deep sense of duty. His death is a monumental loss—not just to his family or our government—but to Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole.”
The governor highlighted Bello’s significant role in shaping state security policies, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and promoting community safety through his contributions in the State Executive Council.
On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, Yahaya expressed heartfelt condolences to Bello’s family, associates, and the people of Balanga Local Government Area, praying that “Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannat Firdaus.”
Governor Yahaya also extended sympathy to the family of the late police orderly, describing both men as patriots who died in active service to the state and the nation.
He further prayed for the quick recovery of Bello’s driver, who sustained injuries in the accident and is currently receiving medical attention.
