Super Eagles star, Ndidi celebrating his goal against Tunisia
Super Eagles midfielder and captain Wilfred Ndidi has opened up on the personal inspiration behind his memorable goal celebration following Nigeria’s thrilling 3–2 victory over Tunisia.
Nigeria went ahead shortly before half-time through Victor Osimhen, before Ndidi doubled the advantage in the second half. Ademola Lookman later added a third as the Super Eagles took control of the contest. Tunisia, however, staged a late fightback with two goals in the closing minutes, but Nigeria held on to secure the hard-fought win.
Ndidi, who scored Nigeria’s second goal, spoke to journalists after the match, describing the emotional significance of the moment — his first goal for the national team in 10 years — and the reason behind his Kanu-inspired celebration.
“I just remembered my dad. My dad always talk about Kanu and all, and I saw the video, and said I would do that for him,” Ndidi said.
The Besiktas midfielder added that both the goal and the victory made the night even more special, given how long he had waited to get on the scoresheet for Nigeria.
“It was really special, after a decade, it was amazing, and we got the win, which is the most important.”
