Nasarawa State Government has donated an office complex to the newly inaugurated North Central Development Commission (NCDC) to facilitate its smooth take-off in the region.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, who handed over the office, located along Shendam Road in Lafia, on Tuesday, expressed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the commission to accelerate development in the state and across the North Central zone.
Governor Sule commended President Bola Tinubu, for establishing the NCDC as part of efforts to drive infrastructural development and human empowerment nationwide.
He thanked his fellow governors for coming together to ensure a smooth take-off for the commission, apologizing for their absence at the event. The governor noted that a meeting with the governors and members of the National Assembly would be held in Abuja on Thursday, to further discuss the commission’s operations.
On his part, the Chairman of the NCDC, Cosmas Akighir, pledged the commission’s commitment to partnering with state governments to eradicate poverty and stimulate development in the region. He urged North Central governors to support the commission in delivering its mandate.
Akighir, expressed gratitude for the office space provided by the Nasarawa State Government and requested land for a permanent headquarters and vehicles for operational efficiency.
The NCDC Chairman highlighted the region’s potential, noting that it is blessed with enormous natural resources but faces significant challenges. He emphasized the need for collaboration between the commission and state governments to drive development, lift living standards, and alleviate poverty.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji, explained that the office complex was renovated and given a facelift in line with Governor Sule’s commitment at the commission’s inauguration in Abuja. Magaji stated that the renovation was part of the state’s efforts to complement the Federal Government’s initiatives and ensure the smooth take-off of the NCDC.
“The Governor’s commitment to supporting the NCDC is seen as a positive step towards accelerating development in the state and the North Central region. The office complex will serve as a temporary headquarters for the commission, enabling it to begin its operations in the region” he said.
The NCDC’s establishment is expected to drive infrastructural development and human empowerment in the North Central zone. The commission’s collaboration with state governments will be crucial in achieving its mandate and addressing the region’s development challenges.
