U.S President, Donald Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to file a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times, alleging the outlet has consistently misrepresented him and his administration.
In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump declared, “The ‘Times’ has been a mouthpiece for the Radical Left Democrat Party, lying about me, my family, my business, and the America First Movement for decades.”
He further criticized the newspaper’s editorial board for endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris during the presidential campaign, calling it “the largest illegal campaign contribution in history.”
The lawsuit, which Trump stated will be filed in Florida, stems partly from the newspaper’s reporting on a controversial letter and drawing allegedly linked to Trump and given to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The White House has denied the authenticity of Trump’s signature on the document.
The New York Times has not yet responded to the president’s claims.
Trump’s legal threats extend beyond the Times. He has previously settled multimillion-dollar lawsuits against CBS and ABC and has targeted other outlets, including barring the Associated Press from his government plane after it refused to use his proposed term, “Gulf of America,” for the Gulf of Mexico. Critics argue these actions threaten press freedom. (dpa/NAN)
