United States (US) President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying “there won’t be anything left” of the country if stalled peace negotiations with Washington fail to produce results.
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump declared: “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!”
The United States and Iran have remained locked in conflict since US and Israeli strikes launched in late February, with diplomatic efforts struggling to end months of violence across the Middle East.
Although both sides agreed to a temporary truce on April 8 through mediation by Pakistan, tensions rose again after fresh drone attacks targeted key US allies in the Gulf region.
Saudi Arabia said it intercepted three drones that entered its airspace from Iraq, while the United Arab Emirates confirmed that a drone attack caused a fire at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant without causing casualties or radiation leaks.
UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash condemned the attack, saying, “The terrorist targeting of the Barakah clean nuclear power plant, whether carried out by the principal perpetrator or through one of its agents, represents a dangerous escalation.”
Iran-backed armed groups operating in Iraq and Yemen have been accused of carrying out drone operations against Gulf nations that Tehran claims support American military and economic interests.
The ongoing conflict has also disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil route, as Iran continues restricting vessel movement while the US tightens pressure on Iranian oil exports.
Meanwhile, fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified despite a ceasefire in Lebanon, with Israeli officials reporting that Hezbollah launched around 200 projectiles over the weekend.
Iranian media accused Washington of refusing to make meaningful compromises during negotiations, claiming the US “offering no tangible concessions, wants to obtain concessions that it failed to obtain during the war, which will lead to an impasse in the negotiations.”
