Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, declaring that the party remains “united, formidable and focused” as it prepares for its elective national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its emergency meeting held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, and presented by BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the board expressed full support for the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors’ Forum, and other key organs of the party “for their collective roles in stabilizing our Party.”
The BoT also welcomed the recent ruling of the Oyo State High Court, which upheld the party’s constitutional right to manage its internal affairs, including the conduct of its forthcoming convention. Justice A. L. Akintola’s decision, the communiqué stated, was “a victory for democracy, rule of law and political development in our country.”
However, the BoT expressed concern over recent tensions and “regrettable incidents” within the party, including the reported invasion of the PDP National Secretariat. “These developments are not reflective of the ideals and character of the PDP,” the board noted.
Senator Wabara emphasized that the BoT, as “the conscience of the party,” would not take sides in the ongoing disagreements. “The decision for reconciliation is not a sign of weakness, but a demonstration of maturity and responsibility,” the communiqué read.
To address internal disputes, the BoT announced the constitution of a high-powered reconciliation committee tasked with restoring unity and harmony ahead of the convention. The committee is chaired by Ambassador Hassan Adamu (North East) with Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (South South) as Secretary. Other members include Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East), Senator Zaynab Kure (North Central), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (South West), and Dr. Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West).
The committee has been mandated to submit its report to the BoT on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for further action.
“The PDP remains resolute in its commitment to democracy, dialogue, and national unity,” the communiqué concluded.
