The Provost of the College of Education, Akwanga Mr.Jonathan Thani has promised to put all efforts to transform the college both in terms of infrastructure and academic activities.
This he said can be achieved by adapting strategies he used when he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Education.
Speaking in an interview with National Accord in his office today, Mr Thani, explained that when he was made Dean, School of Education, he mobilised students to pay stipends as monthly dues and would use such money as soon as it comes for development purposes.
As a result, he was able to purchase chairs, tables and office cabins and and set up the best library for the school with out management or government support.
The provost, who is a reverened gentleman and an educationist, explained that it was as a result of his exemplary leadership qualities that when the office of the provost became vacant, both staff and members of the college community mobilised support for him which enabled the governor to appoint him provost. He noted that he can not afford to fail his people as already, he has started meeting up their demands through welfare packages.
According to him, about 100 staff have been selected to participate in a computer training program to commence soon while others shall continue to attend workshops and seminars to update their knowledge.
The provost, who has finished his doctorate programmes in the Special Education Department of the University of Jos, expressed confidence in the leadership qualities of the state government under the leadership of Engineer Abdulahi Sule, whom he said has passion for education, assuring that the college would partner government and other relevant stakeholders in the education sectors like Tertiary Education Fund (TETFund) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) for effective accreditation of courses and provision of more infrastructures.
He promised to curb campus vices such as cultism through appropriate checks and called on parents to collaborate with the college through regular monitoring of children as he is poised to train quality teachers who would go out to handle children for future benefit of the entire state and the country at large.
