Sokoto State Government on Monday said it is ready to provide free land to any developer willing to invest in the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Sokoto State Ministry of Lands, Survey, Housing and Urban Planning Moyi Tambuwal stated this at the ongoing 11th meeting of the National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
The 5 days meeting holding at the Dankeni Guests Palace Hotels Sokoto, the theme, “Housing Our People, By All Of Government And All Our People”, has in attendance participants from across the federation.
In his opening remarks, Engineer Tambuwal noted that shelter is critical to family good, adding that its absence renders humanity to insecurity and vulnerability.
According to him, the theme of the meeting is a clear testimony that housing development is not only for government, hence, the need for more involvement of the private sectors and individuals to ensure housing for all.
In his introductory remark, Mr Jide Ode, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, said the timing of the meeting is very significant as it will help them make adequate contributions towards ensuring that affordable houses are delivered to Nigerians.
Mr Jide, however, stressed that the federal government alone cannot provide affordable housing to all Nigerians hence the need for other stakeholders to come on board and increase the stock of affordable houses in Nigeria.
On the meeting, Mr Ode said, ” It is appropriate to highlight that the Council meeting is preceded by a 2-Day Technical meeting if the Directors, Heads of Agencies and Professional Bodies in the build environment and the meeting of the Permanent Secretaries in the 3rd Day, being 26th July, 2022.
‘”The responsibility of the technical meeting of the directors, as you are aware is to creat solid and resourceful foundation by deligently reviewing the Memoranda submitted by stakeholders and fine-tuning the recommendations to the meeting of the Permanent Secretaries for consideration and presentation to the main Council at it’s meeting on Thursday, 28th July, 2022″.
