Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa
Supreme Court on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, affirmed the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16, 2024, Ondo State governorship election, solidifying his mandate as the state’s leader.
The ruling dismissed challenges from three opposition parties—the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Allied People’s Movement (APM)—which had contested Aiyedatiwa’s win at the Election Petition Tribunal.
Aiyedatiwa secured a decisive victory in the election, garnering 366,781 votes and winning all 18 local government areas in Ondo State, far ahead of his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the PDP, who polled 117,845 votes.
The APC in Ondo State welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict with enthusiasm, describing it as the “final endorsement of the people’s mandate.”
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Alex Kalejaye, in Akure, the APC expressed gratitude to the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies for their roles throughout the legal process.
The statement highlighted that the state APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, extended congratulations to Governor Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, Mr. Olayide Adelami, and the people of Ondo State.
“We urge the three political parties to put the defeat behind them and support the efforts of the Governor Aiyedatiwa-led government to reconstruct various sectors, aimed at boosting the economy,” the statement added, calling for unity to advance the state’s development.
