
No fewer than 15 people have been confirmed killed, while hundreds of others have been displaced following an early morning attack on Tiv communities within Chanchanji Ward, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, on Sunday, 1st February 2026.
The victims killed and displaced are from Abokpa, Abeda, Tse Paveun, Gbundu, Mbayevkyaior in Peva, and Tse Shile in Amadu communities of Chanchanji Ward.
Confirming the incident, the Tiv Taraba Youth Development and Progressive Forum (TTYDPF), through its President, Mr. Tor Moses, described the situation as tragic and devastating.
“Many people have been killed and displaced. We are in pain. Tiv communities in Chanchanji are suffering. Who will comfort us?” he lamented.
Residents who escaped the attack reportedly fled to neighbouring communities, leaving behind homes, farmlands, and personal belongings, as fear of further attacks continues to grip the area.
The Chairman of Takum Local Government Council, Hon. Benjamin Bako, also confirmed the attack. He described it as “madness of the highest order” and assured residents that decisive action is being taken.
“Security agencies are being mobilized to the affected communities to hunt down the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” Bako stated.
At the time of filing this report, security operatives were reportedly moving into the affected areas, while calls continue to mount for urgent humanitarian assistance for displaced residents and a lasting solution to recurring attacks in the region.
