Speaker, Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. John Bonzena and 16 other members who were elected under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have defected from the party to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The Speaker began by submitting his own resignation letter, formally leaving the PDP for the APC.
He then presented the letters of sixteen other PDP lawmakers who had also decided to cross over.
Each of the sixteen stood up in the chamber to personally affirm their signatures and confirm that they were willingly leaving the PDP for the APC.
According to the Speaker and the defecting members, the ongoing crisis within the PDP at the national level pushed them to take this step. They stressed that their move was not driven by personal gain but by what they believe to be in the best interest of the people of the state.
With these sixteen lawmakers switching sides, the Speaker noted that all 24 members of the Taraba State House of Assembly are now in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Our correspondent reports that Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, had announced just days earlier that he also intends to leave the PDP for the APC on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
