The recovered cattle
A joint security operation has led to the recovery of 249 rustled cattle from a suspected terrorist hideout in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of July 3, involved troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army working alongside personnel of the Nigerian Navy, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Hybrid Forces.
Security sources disclosed that the livestock were recovered during a clearance mission at a camp located deep inside the Ofere Forest.
The camp was reportedly once occupied by the late terrorist kingpin, Kachalla Ibrahim Baccujo, who had earlier been neutralised by security forces.
Following the successful operation, all 249 recovered cattle were taken into the custody of the ONSA Hybrid Forces.
Authorities said efforts are underway to identify the rightful owners before the animals are returned.
Military sources described the operation as part of ongoing coordinated offensives targeting terrorist hideouts and criminal networks operating within Kogi State and its surrounding areas.
They added that the sustained joint operations are aimed at dismantling terrorist camps, cutting off logistics supporting criminal groups, and improving security across the state.
The latest recovery is seen as another significant boost to ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb terrorism, cattle rustling and other forms of violent crime in the region.
