The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has welcomed the efforts of Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah to maintain the integrity and unity of the country’s National Oil Corporation (NOC).
“UNSMIL further welcomes the decision by the NOC to integrate all employees of the parallel corporation with a view to ensuring its organisational unity,” UNSMIL said in a statement.
It stressed the importance for NOC to operate as an impartial actor and one that works for the interests of the country as a whole.
NOC on Saturday announced the end of the division of the oil sector between eastern and western Libya, by merging all the employees of the parallel eastern-based corporation.
Since 2014, Libya had been politically divided between eastern and western authorities, having two central banks and two oil corporations.
Dbeibah’s Government of National Unity was selected in February by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.
