U.S President, Donald Trump
In a rare and striking endorsement, Israeli President Isaac Herzog has applauded U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in securing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, saying his contribution warrants the Nobel Peace Prize.
“There is no doubt that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for this,” Herzog posted Thursday on X (formerly Twitter), describing the peace deal as “a chance to mend, to heal, and to open a new horizon of hope for our region.”
The breakthrough came through indirect negotiations led by the U.S. and held in Egypt. According to the first phase of the deal, all hostages currently held in Gaza are to be released, and Israeli military forces will pull back to a mutually agreed position.
Hamas has confirmed it is part of the agreement.
Trump, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York earlier this week, pointed to his track record, stating that he had already helped bring several conflicts to an end since returning to office this year. He also argued that his efforts merited recognition from the Nobel Committee.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner is expected to be announced this Friday.
