
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has commended the leadership of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) for its decentralization reforms and establishment of the North-East Regional Steering Committee (NERSC) which is aimed at strengthening engineering governance across the country.
Governor Zulum gave the commendations in his goodwill message at the North-East Regional Engineering Stakeholders’ Summit, Seminar, and Inauguration of NERSC held on Wednesday in Gombe State.
The governor, who was represented by represented by the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (BICTDA), Engr. Mohammed Wanori, praised COREN’s decentralization initiative, describing it as “a milestone reform that enhances accountability, collaboration, and professional standards in the engineering profession.”
He noted that engineering plays a central role in national development, particularly in infrastructure, ICT, and environmental resilience, and is crucial for the ongoing reconstruction and sustainability efforts in the North-East region.
Zulum reaffirmed Borno State’s commitment to engineering-driven recovery and development, appreciating COREN’s regulatory support in ensuring quality and professionalism in all engineering projects.
He urged participants to develop actionable strategies that would strengthen COREN’s decentralization policy, promote local content, and empower engineers to drive economic transformation across the country.
He reiterated Borno State’s partnership with COREN in promoting engineering excellence and innovation for Nigeria’s sustainable development.
The event was attended by the Executive Governors of Gombe and Bauchi States, Emirs from the North-East region, former Presidents of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and other distinguished stakeholders, including Engr. Sadu Abdullahi Auno Chairman of Borma, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, among others.
