
Borno State Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, has inspected the ongoing clearance of shrubs on the International Lake Chad water route in Doron Baga, Kukawa Local Government.
Hon. Mele expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and assured that Governor Zulum remains committed in the resuscitation of the Lake Chad and the resettlement drive of the Borno State Government.
The Commissioner stated that the project would enable farmers to commence farming activities on the lake, particularly for crops like wheat, onion, and maize, and also boost fishing activities.
He emphasized that the commencement of farming, fishing, and transportation on the lake will significantly improve the socio-economic development of the state and the country.
In a related development, the commissioner has urged the people of Kukawa to intensify prayers for peace and stability in the state.
He made the call during an address at the Kukawa Central Mosque, where he emphasized the need for divine intervention amid the current challenges facing the nation.
The commissioner reiterated Governor Zulum’s commitment to resettling displaced communities, stressing that peace is a prerequisite for achieving this goal.
He praised the people of Kukawa for their farming prowess and devotion to prayers.
Hon. Mai Mele also reminded the community of Governor Zulum’s pledge to reconstruct residential houses destroyed by insurgents, 500 meters away from both sides of the road in Kukawa.
He urged those yet to benefit to be patient, assuring them they would not be left behind.
Launches School Enrolment Programme
The Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs has also launched a school enrollment campaign in the recently resettled Kekeno town of Kukawa LGA.
He was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mustapha Alhaji Modu, the Director of Local Government, Chairmen of Nganzai, Engr Zanna Mallam Gana Badu; Monguno, Liman Alhaji Kalla; and Kukawa, Goni Gana Lawan; Yusuf Ali of the Zonal Inspectorate, and other dignitaries.
